Many major appliances such as refrigerators and freezers include refrigerants (ODS – Ozone Depleting Substances), which can be harmful to the environment and human health if they are not properly handled and disposed of. Large appliances typically have a 75% metallic recovery, primarily consisting of ferrous (iron) recyclable material.
BENEFITS OF RECYCLING WITH ABC
- All locations are set up with proper equipment for safe and efficient extraction
- Staff are fully trained and certified with HRAI/Environment Canada/B.C. Environment Certificate in CFC/HCFC/HFC Controls, and a certificate number for refrigerant handling as required under current BC regulations
- Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) are properly drained from units and disposed of through authorized downstream processors
