To preserve the world's resources and strengthen the lives of our people and communities

Community Engagement

At ABC Recycling, we believe that our work should contribute to the betterment of both the environment and the communities we serve. One of our core values is to commit to our future, and we recognize that true sustainability extends beyond recycling metal—it means making a lasting impact in the places where we live and work. As a family-owned business, giving back is part of our DNA, rooted in the family’s tradition of tzedakah, the Hebrew word for charity. Through our social purpose initiatives, we live our core values.

Social Purpose & Indigenous Commitment

ABC Recycling is a purpose-driven company, committed to using our resources and expertise to create positive social change. Our social purpose committee spearheads initiatives that align with our mission, ensuring that our contributions go beyond financial support to include active community engagement. A key focus of our social purpose is Indigenous relations and reconciliation, where we dedicate 50% of our paid employee volunteer time to initiatives that support Indigenous communities and environmental solutions.

Employee Volunteer Program

We believe that giving back isn’t just about financial contributions; it’s also about the gift of time. Through our employee volunteering program, each ABC Recycling employee is eligible for 16 hours of paid volunteer time each year. Half of this time is dedicated to volunteering focused on Indigenous equity or environmental initiatives, while the remaining 8 hours can be used to support causes of the employee’s choosing. We coordinate corporate volunteer events that align with our social purpose, ensuring our collective efforts make a meaningful impact.

Donate at the Gate Program

Each ABC Recycling location runs a “Donate at the Gate” program, providing an easy way for our customers and communities to give back. Each yard selects a different charity every month or quarter, and the proceeds from scrap metal donations—such as old appliances, Christmas lights, and tools—will be donated to the local charity. Customers can also choose to “round down” their payments, donating the rounded amount to the selected charity.

Charitable Giving

We are proud to support organizations that align with our values, and our charitable donations focus on a few key areas:
  • Local Communities – Supporting grassroots initiatives that strengthen our neighborhoods.
  • Environmental Initiatives – Investing in programs that promote sustainability and conservation.
  • Indigenous Equity & Community Investment – Partnering with Indigenous communities to foster economic and social well-being.
  • Emergency Funds for International Crises – Providing support in times of global need.
