Responsible metal recycling for stronger communities

Metal Recycling & Sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of ABC Recycling. Since 1912, our core business has centred around salvaging end-of-life materials for reuse or recycling, saving resources and reducing environmental impact.

Metals are used in everything, from consumer products like cars and appliances, as well as infrastructure, industrial equipment, and more. Recyclers collect these materials and process them via shearing, shredding, and other processes to be fed back into steel mills. The recycled steel can be then used in manufacturing, saving 2,500 pounds of iron ore, 1,400 pounds of coal, and 120 pounds of limestone, per each ton of recycled steel recovered.

The continuous recyclability of metal conserves natural resources by reducing the need for virgin raw materials, minimizing the environmental impact associated with mining and extraction processes. In addition, recycling steel significantly lowers energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions compared to primary steel production, contributing to climate change mitigation efforts.
