ABC Recycling diverts up to 20,000 tonnes of ferrous and nonferrous recycled metals from municipal landfills every month. ABC prepares and packages the recycled metals for sale worldwide. Our organization is fourth generation family-owned and operated. We have a valuable combination of deep roots and family-oriented culture that permeates throughout our 10 locations and touches each of our 200-plus employees. In 2019, ABC published our Indigenous People Commitment Policy. Tzedakah – Giving back to the community is rooted in our family’s tradition of tzedakah, or charity.
We are well-positioned to complete the first 3 steps in the metal recycling process:
The geographic reach of each of our yards allows us to service all of BC and Alberta. We are now growing our presence in the Pacific Northwest. Proactive management of cyclical and seasonal impacts such as weather conditions are a factor for 4 of our northern locations. In 2022, we established a bulk loading facility in Bellingham. This is our 10th location. 6 of our 10 yards have active rail spurs on site. Our railcars add significant capability and efficiencies to our operations. 3 of our 10 yards have direct access to barge ramps – Campbell River, Nanaimo and Bellingham. We have passionate, loyal and value-aligned employees within the organization.
We are entrench in our client’s operations to ensure their unique needs are met. Our branded roll-off bins for waste disposal are dropped off at client sites (construction, mining, etc.) for collecting and storing scrap metals. Our extensive network of locations and drivers allow for frequent pick-up and switch out of bins and quick payment for the scrap collected.
We have specialized processing equipment and highly skilled operators available to work within and alongside client’s operations. We offer scrap metal dealers and processors Brokerage services to help them deliver their processed scrap metals to customers around the world. We rapidly respond to train derailments with the proper equipment to clean up the accident. We provide on site clean up services for industrial, agricultural and landfill customers. Metal recycling is largest recyclable commodity in the world; it truly represents a global circular economy.
About the Lummi Nation – The Lummi Nation are an American tribe of the Coast Salish ethnolinguistic group. They are based in the coastal area of the Pacific Northwest region of Washington State. The Lummi Indian Reservation is located to the west of Bellingham and is 32 km south of the Canadian border.
We have a robust preventative maintenance program for all our equipment to ensure we are always safe and fully operational.
We have developed unique working relationships with MARR and IZWTAG that adds value to their operation and the communities we service.
We give back to the community through the gift of time. Each year, employees take 2 days per year to volunteer in the community with an organization of their choosing. Company-sponsored volunteer events are aligned with our social purpose and indigenous projects. The Jewish value of Tzedakah (charity) is embodied throughout our organization as we contribute our time, effort and monetary support to community-based organizations.
In 2019, we participated in the United Way Social Purpose (SP) Innovator’s program. It is an innovative approach that both strengthens the context in which a company does business and positively impacts our community – a good for everyone.
As a family-owned business since inception 110 years ago, we have built and maintained a culture that treats all team members as family. Support, compassion and understanding are key elements of our culture. At all levels of management, we work hard to embody our values in hope that all team members engage with one another in the same manner.
